MEET JOHN LOWERY

John Lowery
Representative for
NC House District 47
Representative John L. Lowery is a lifelong resident of Robeson County, a proud Lumbee, and a dedicated public servant committed to improving the lives of families across southeastern North Carolina.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he earned degrees in Political Science and American Indian Studies, John went on to receive his Master of Public Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill. His educational background and deep community roots have shaped his lifelong commitment to public service, education, and rural development.
John currently serves as both a Member of the North Carolina House of Representatives and the Chairman of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina — the seventh person to hold that office in the Tribe’s history. As Chairman, John has led major initiatives to build new housing, expand educational and agricultural programs, and secure record levels of funding for cultural preservation, economic development, and community infrastructure. His leadership has focused on strengthening families, promoting opportunity, and honoring the proud heritage of the Lumbee people.
Before his election as Lumbee Tribal Chairman, John served as a civics teacher, a member of the Lumbee Tribal Council, and in leadership roles with both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the N.C. Department of Commerce. In those roles, he worked to expand economic opportunity and job creation across the Sandhills and other rural regions of North Carolina.
In October 2025, following the resignation of Representative Jarrod Lowery, the Robeson County Republican Party unanimously recommended John to fill the vacancy in North Carolina House District 47. Governor Josh Stein appointed him shortly thereafter, allowing John to continue his family’s legacy of faith-based, community-driven leadership. In the General Assembly, he serves alongside Senator Danny Britt and House Majority Leader Brenden Jones, working together to deliver results for Robeson County — from strengthening public schools and supporting law enforcement to improving roads, broadband, and local infrastructure.
Whether leading at the state level or serving his Tribe, Representative John Lowery’s mission is simple: to ensure that Robeson County’s voice is heard, its people are respected, and its future is secure for generations to come.
